Julie is able to assess, diagnose, prescribe and refer patients across most of the range of general practice problems. She also is part of our Frailty Team helping with forward planning for this vulnerable group of patients.

Joanne is our Advanced Frailty Care Co-ordinator, working with our patients to keep them safe and living in their own homes for as long as possible.

Receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches and practice audits.

The midwives are at Longtown Medical Practice on Friday mornings and hold clinics between 09:15 and 11:55am. Please telephone 01228 791328 to make your appointments.

District nursing services are provided by the Cumbria Primary Care Trust (PCT) and are based at Longtown Medical Centre. You can contact them either through reception or directly on 01228 791406. If you have an illness or incapacity that means that you need nursing care in your own home, one of the district nurses will visit you. Patients who are likely to benefit from this service include the housebound, the elderly, people with a terminal illness, and those who have recently been discharged from hospital. District nurses provide wound care, palliative care, continence advice, health promotion advice and advice on co-ordinating care packages.

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.
